Our thoughts should be directed to His will, as well as our requests in the form of prayer..
Interesting question…
God tells us to seek Him first and all other things will be added…not sure it’s possible to direct my thoughts to the will of God apart from directing my thoughts toward God. If my thoughts are directed towards Him, from a heart that is bursting with adoration and gratefulness…I believe He will make His will known. I can prayerfully adore and be grateful wordlessly as my soul responds to my Father!
Also, my spirit whispers to Him as I read His Word…and as He speaks through it! If God, who created me in His image, can make His will known to me wordlessly, I am able to hear, know, obey and respond.
I also got a couple of responses by email. From Bobby:”The Bible says that when we delight ourselves in the Lord, He will give you the desires of your heart…not sure we need words to delight ourselves. There are things that art can do that words cannot.” And Pam’s simple response: “Yes, absolutely. Romans 8:26.” I think it is comforting to not be held to something akin to a legalism that says if you don’t have a picture of God in your head, and use His name before and after the thought (i.e.”in Jesus’ name”) it isn’t prayer. After all, God is beyond our understanding, isn’t he? Thankfully.
