Jet Fuel

There are some people that impress you as soon as you meet them, and others grow on you. Doug Gamble does both. I remember Doug’s first sermon at Suncrest, and should have seen the portent of his energy and excitement. (Portent is a new word for me :+)  No, it’s not the amount of coffee [...]

Pastors Only Work on Sunday

Posted on January 28, 2009. Filed under: Uncategorized |

Okay, so it’s an old joke, but there are some who have no idea what the pastor does the rest of the week.  Surely, something, they guess! Our pastors might work on a sermon at midnight, and be at the coffee shop office at 10 am. So much for banker’s hours. A late-night call about [...]

Home Depot Cuts Jobs by 2%

Posted on January 26, 2009. Filed under: Uncategorized |

Scary? Not really, since this affects Expo associates more than anything, and with my FMLA papers in place, I should be okay. A reminder to be thankful for my job! In the unsure economic times we’re in, a lot of people question what will happen next.  I want to assure you that the same God [...]

Outgiving God

Posted on January 24, 2009. Filed under: Uncategorized |

It is my lifelong quest to prove that you can’t outgive God, but God’s gifts, even the tangible, are not always monetary. For me they have come as a gift of a free area rug or an appliance, or like just yesterday when we found out Tim’s AC adapter is under warranty and that saved [...]

Outgiving God, Part 2

Posted on January 22, 2009. Filed under: Uncategorized |

So I think I have a fairly good grasp on trusting God with my finances, not that I don’t have to kick myself now and then as reminder. I’m human. But I wish I could trust him with my time as well. Is it because I don’t see a verse that says it clearly [...]

Posted on January 20, 2009. Filed under: Uncategorized |

Beyond the “bless our church” prayer, have you ever thought to pray these things for your church? Here’s a random list that I thought of over time…
1. protect our reputation 2. integrity 3. solid leadership by the elders 4. wise decision making 5. that the Christ-followers would grow and remain close to God 6. a [...]

Giving God Credit

Posted on January 18, 2009. Filed under: Uncategorized |

Last month I was able to pay off a credit card and close the account. (A great feeling. I highly recommend it.) Imagine my surprise then, when the card company pulled a payment the following month, leaving me with a credit  balance and finance charge! They owed me money now, but still extracted their  minimum [...]

In Order That… (The Conclusion)

Posted on January 16, 2009. Filed under: Uncategorized |

I think I’m done with my “In Order That” study, mostly because I haven’t found much, although in itself that is enlightening.  I have searched and read Paul’s writings the best I know how, even extending my study to the words of Jesus (right book, wrong man?),  but have come up empty. Plan B: go [...]

Heart Abandoned

Posted on January 14, 2009. Filed under: Uncategorized |

Maybe you’ve noticed by now that I love word pictures, and I also am inspired by music. One of my favorite images is from a worship song I have grown to love:  “With arms high and heart abandoned.” Picture this, or better yet, do it. Go somewhere where you don’t care who sees you, and [...]

This is the Church

Posted on January 12, 2009. Filed under: Uncategorized |

My friend Lowee came to church again today, and it just occurred to her that since we are meeting at a movie theater, someone has to pack up all the stuff every week and store it.  Who does that? Where do we put it? How long does it take? Lots of questions. When I walked [...]
